I built my company on the best AI on earth.

This week I found out the compute under it is on a six-month lease.

Not a five-year contract. Six months. With a 90-day cancellation clause on both sides.

I didn't build on bedrock. I built on a sublet.

Here's the thing — the model is still the best. That part is true. But "best model" and "stable foundation" are two different claims, and this week they came apart in public.

The arrangement everyone treats as permanent is, underneath, a quarterly deal between two companies whose interests don't perfectly line up.

I'm not switching anything. I'm not distrusting anyone. The lesson is smaller and harder than that:

Continuity is a design choice. And most of us are outsourcing it to a contract we've never read.

So the work that matters — the memory, the context, the way the actual workflows run — has to live in a layer I own. Rent the model. Own the middle.

The day the lease terms change, my work shouldn't even notice.
